“…for I have learned how to
be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am. I know how to be abased and live humbly in
straightened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in
abundance…” -Phil. 4:11b-12a AMP
BEING CONTENT
The Apostle Paul was content no matter what state he was in, and
believe-you-me, he lived lavishly in wealth at a time in his life as well as
living with only the clothes on his back at other times. But in all these states he was content. Why? What
did the Apostle have that we do not?
Finances stress us; relationships test us, and physical infirmities try
to rob us of contentment. The reason
Paul could say he was content is that he recognized that even in any weakness the
goal of his soul was NOT spiritual maturity (as many would have us believe is
the reason for suffering) but rather to enjoy God Himself. God will replace that weakness in us with His
strength. Just what is His
strength? How is it enacted? By yielding to Him our weaknesses so He can
replace them with Himself. When He fills
us with Himself He fills us with His Love and Presence. Therein lays true contentment.
