If you have never heard of Rev. Leonard Ravenhill then you are in
for a treat. His style of writing is
clear, concise, and full of Holy Spirit conviction. Even the most “devout” believers come away
from hearing one of his sermons or reading one of his books contemplating what
they should be doing that they are not or what they are doing that they should
not be doing.
In his book, “America is Too Young to Die” (published by Bethany
Fellowship, Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota, ©1979), the description of the book
by the publisher on the back cover states, “In
a time when nations all over the world point at America, calling her everything
but Christian, the voice of a ‘minor’ prophet once again speaks a major
truth: ‘It is time to quit playing
church.’”
Rev. Ravenhill puts it this way in Chapter 4, page 38, “Emergency situations call for emergency
measures. The sweet hour of prayer as a
mid-week breather in the church has been reduced to a sweet twenty minutes of
prayer…would to God that we could rise a battalion of wet-eyed intercessors for
this hour of unprecedented grief and spiritual peril! The slogan of the Church must be, ‘We will
give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.’” And later in Chapter 6, page 55 he says, “We must fall before Him and be broken to
pieces, or we shall fall before Him when He breaks us to pieces.”
Do you feel as if you are in a rut?
How is your “spiritual power”?
Feeling a little weak in the spirit lately? Are you willing to be challenged, charged up,
and changed? I highly recommend reading
“America is Too Young to Die” by Rev. Leonard Ravenhill. Although no longer being reprinted you can
sometimes find the book in used book stores or try one of the online used book
sellers. It is a book well worth
searching for.
